Blogging
When Did You Last Post?
I find it intriguing looking at other Masterclass student’s blogs and wondering why some have not posted recently. On investigation, of the people who started the course in January 2010 many have not posted for 3-4 months. Others have not posted for a month or more and only a small minority have posted regularly. Some of these people were prolific posters in the first few weeks of setting up their blogs.
The reason I mention this is a while ago I read Mandy Allen’s excellent post ‘Bloggers Guide’ (Course Discussion 24.07.09) on the Masterclass Forum. Mandy conducted a survey on last years students and the results compare very similarly to this years students.
What can the reason be for this anomaly? While accepting a lot of folk are holding down full time jobs and just do not have the time to devote to this activity you would think that they would be able to submit a post at least once or twice a month. As with anything I suppose some have lost interest and dropped out of the course and some have been spending their time on product creation.
There may of course be other reasons, I would be interested in your thoughts on this subject, so please leave a comment.
I think posting regularly to your blog is absolutely vital Bill, It’s the only thing I have concentrated on, (which is why I dropped out of the Masterclass at lesson 10). I try and post every 2 or 3 days, if more than 3 days go by without a post I start to get anxious.
Writing for the blog has got easier and easier…practice make perfect.
My next stage will be writing articles, which I will probably do for 6 to 12 months, before my final step – the eBook.
New Masterclass students are full of enthusiasm at the start and write plenty of posts, but I think they try and do too much; i.e. the whole Masterclass Course in one go. It’s much easier if you concentrate on one stage at a time, getting really good at one thing before moving on to something else.
This is an important topic Bill, and I’m glad that you have raised it. It will be interesting to see other peoples thoughts on the subject.
John

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the mention.
I see a very similar pattern emerging this year,
but there are always alot of different
circumstances and reasons for people dropping out.
Good post, thanks.
Enjoy the journey.

hi …I am on week 7 of the masterclass, but I work away from home during the week, sometimes 14days straight. I have only posted 3 times yet I think that the way the course is set up it is easy possible catch up, even though I only manage to do IM course work occassionally, I`m total intent on success…Thanks for inspiring me to comment..MIKE

Hi Bill,
Guilty of not posting to blogs more often here too. With the exception of the full-time job, and lots of extra time with the grandkids (which I wouldn’t give up for ANYTHING), various other projects and meetings in my life, I have no excuse. (Except maybe about the lack of sleep when I DO follow through and work on my Product Creation.)
I have gotten past the “tough getting started” part of Product Creation and have moved into the “I actually am enjoying this!” part of Product Creation.
Guilty of being behind in the class also. My product is almost ready. I tried to start on the Sales Page stuff, but it just became too much and I found myself getting discouraged and wanting to take a loooong break. So I stopped the worries of the Sales Page and decided to concentrate completely on the Product until I am finished with it. THEN I should have an easier time getting the Sales Page done. (Right?)
Thank you for the post! It is good to know that I am really doing okay and others are struggling to ‘keep up’ also. The goal is SUCCESS, not STRESS. (Sounds good anyway.)
Climbing down off my soap box now.
Keep up the good work Bill! Keep us honest and moving in the right direction!
Great success to you,
Dj
Enjoy each day, it only comes once in a lifetime!

Hi Bill, I’ve noticed that as well.
I used to go around all the masterclass blogs and leave comments on them all. On those that hadn’t posted for a while i would send a comment of encouragement and check back a couple of weeks later only to see “Your comment is awaiting moderation” on many of them.
I also noticed that loads of people wouldn’t even acknowledge my comment or return the gesture. After doing this for some months i stopped and now I concentrate on those blogs that interest me and/or those that leave comments on my blog.
I realise that people have busy lives with work and family commitments, and that keeping up can be very hard, (i know this better than most), but if you enter a game surely you should at least try and play it.
I read Mandy’s post and report from last year and they were excellent. It does seem strange that people would put in so much financial commitment only to let it slip on effort.
Like John McNally said “New Masterclass students are full of enthusiasm at the start and write plenty of posts, but I think they try and do too much”. Concentrate on one thing at a time.
Hope you’re well Bill, catch up soon, Barry

Hi Again Bill….Many thanks for your comments on my blog, it`s nice to know somebody has actually read it and possibly taken interest (it give me a real buzz).
Yes..Things have changed with all the H & S on site, some rules are sensible, some are beyond belief. By the way I work as a sub-contract FLOORLAYER. Health & Safety is one thing I do have issues with, and will certainly be touching on it in future posts.
THANKYOU AGAIN FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT ….Mike

Hi Bill
I suppose that the course just reflects life, for some this is a good time to get ahead, for some it’s a bit of a slog and for others well, let’s just say that life gets in the way.
Some of us will just fall by the way side; however, the good thing about John’s course is that no one needs to know that you have fallen behind. You can take a break if and when you need it and catch up again when you are ready.
I noticed something different. Yesterday, I clicked on all of the Masterclass Student Blogs which are being advertised on my Blog. I was surprised to find that very few were advertising 15-20 other students’ blogs and disappointingly, some were showing none except their particular friends.
Best, Theresa

Hi Bill,
While I am making my way slowly through the Masterclass the one thing I try to do is write on my blog. I figure it is the only thing keeping me connected to the Internet while I develop my idea(s).
If I put my mind to it, I can always come up with something to write about, just trying to make it interesting each time is my goal.
My wife often complains that I do not do things fast enough for her and I am sure the Masterclass would fall in that zone. But as I tell her, I may take longer but I am very stubborn and never quit.
Have a Great Day Bill,
Mike

Hi Bill, as John Thornhill said in the beginning, you must be prepared to work.
The test comes when the problems arise. It all boils down to how bad someone wants something and how determined they are.
How long it takes doesn’t matter. Doing your best does. As Mandy Allen says, enjoy the journey, Terry Conti

Bill,
Good post! Many of the internet beginners I have seen failed to do online business is because they keep falling for the overload information. Also, another big one is the spam and fake product that’s doesn’t deliver what they promised. They grown tired and gave up on what they started after a while. But yeah, successful people fail just as much but they just don’t stop and keep getting back up each time they fall. It’s very true how this all comes down to how bad someone want something and how you cope with challenges.

[...] second post that got me thinking was by Bill Murney entitled “Blogging”. Where Bill talks about some of the Masterclass students’ lack of [...]
Thank you for bringing up this subject Bill. I was being hard on myself for not posting 2-3 times a week. Now that I know that I am in the average, it feels better.
The challenge for me seems to keep the pace with the lessons. I’m only up to week 6 of 22 even though it’s a step-by-step approach, which I’m so grateful for. If it was any other way I would have quitted I think. And now that I read about the eBook and sales page I get concerned. I know. I better start worrying when I’ll get there…

Hi Bill:
Thanks for the kick in the butt (sometimes it’s needed)! I too am one of the guilty ones. I have not been blogging as much as I should and am behind in the class. I’ve had life get in the way (burglary of my home, full time job, etc), but am getting back in the saddle. I fully intend to finish this class, no matter what even if it takes me a little longer.
Good luck to you!

I can’t speak for the class as I do not follow mentors of any kind. I can say however, that the majority of bloggers end up closing up shop after they have reached their limit on “trying” to get their blog going and hitting roadblocks. They lose faith in the whole thing, and get lazy.

Blogging for a year now I came to find out that regular posting can be difficult. The number one reason is running out of ideas, and form there procrastination and laziness sets in. Blogging is indeed a test of one’s capacity for success.

Hi Bill:
It is interesting that you are writing about this issue. I have noticed the same lack of posting. My personal feeling is that if your not seeing at least minimum success along the way you will tend to lose interest. We all must support and encourage one another and seek joint ventures.
