And It’s Goodbye From Him – Final Post

Well, after 2 years blogging on this site I have decided not to renew my domain and hosting. They expire at the start of February and the reasons are many but mainly the following.

1. The reason I started this blog was to interact with fellow Masterclass students and hopefully pick up some knowledge in the process. This happened initially when everyone was enthusiastic and had expectations of making money out of internet marketing but unfortunately many realised this just wasn’t going to happen for them and their enthusiasm waned. Their posts, which once were regular, dropped off and many hadn’t posted for months. A lot of the people I shared comments with are no longer on the scene and to be truthful most of the remainder are posting on subjects that I have no interest in.

2. Even from day one it was never my intention to promote the usual marketing subjects associated with earning money online. At 66 I had not got the time, the desire or the inclination to work at something that MAY pay off in 5 years time. I always thought that choosing a micro niche to promote was the way forward. My initial foray into this method didn’t work but hopefully I have now found one that will.

2. My own circle of online friends has dropped alarmingly and I thank the loyal commentators for visiting my blog which it has to be said was never a proper internet marketing blog more of a social blog.

4. The main reason for this blogs closure is that I have eventually found my direction in information marketing and wish to concentrate on this. It is already taking up much of my time and will hopefully continue to do so in the future.

So once again many thanks to all my loyal commentators and I will of course continue to visit your own blogs to see your progress and make a comment from time to time.

In the two years since this blog started I have had over 150,000 spam comments detected by the Askimet plug in. Those spammers really are a pain in the arse.

My new project was online just before Christmas and for anyone interested in having a look the url is http://www.walksintameside.co.uk  I think you will that agree my techie friend Adrian has done a fantastic job again.

  1. Hey Bill…I somehow thought this was coming. Maybe it was the less frequent posting, or the little hints you’ve been giving. Anyway, I thoroughly understand your decision; I’m flirting with less blogging and pursuing other interests too. It’s been just over a year that I’ve been blogging, and feel like “I’ve been there and done that”.
Got to say, I’ve always enjoyed your posts, but even more so, enjoyed getting to know you, who ain’t that much different from me, even though you live half way round the world. Truly it’s a small world.
Best wishes on your future pursuits, and walks in the countryside.

Thanks for the compliments Hansi, it’s good to know my posts have been appreciated, if only by a small audience. I will still pop over to your blog from time to time and make a comment, after all I do enjoy your sense of humour and windups.

  2. Bill,
I’ve been preoccupied with some issues of my own and have neglected my blog reading. I’m disappointed because I’ve enjoyed your travelogues, music posts and hiking adventures. I’m glad to hear that your book is available although I suspect I won’t be traveling your way to use it. Best to you and success with the book. If you ever want to do a guest post just to vent you are always welcome at my blog and at Cantankerous Old Coots where I think you would fit in nicely and add a little international sophistication. Now I’m off to look at your book site.

Thanks for the kind words Ralph, I may take you up on the guest post when I finally get my workload finished. “International sophistication”, that’s the best compliment I have ever received! Bill

We would probably phrase that a little differently at COC. What do you think Benny Hill might call international sophistication? Anyway keep in touch.

Benny would call it taking a lady friend for a Chinese meal.

  3. Hi Bill,

I can see and understand why you’re closing this blog mate. I knew it was coming as you’ve been telling us so over the last few months about following your passion and creating something from it.

I’ve been over to your new site as you know and it continues to impress me mate. I think it’s fantastic that you’re following your passion Bill and as you know you have my full support, should you ever need it.

I have loved coming over to this blog and joining in on some of your sound offs (rants) about various things and have really enjoyed to getting to know you through them.

You’ve shared some great content over the years here Bill, I think the most memorable one being the Spanish walk around a mountain with all the dangerous holes in it.

I think we now know each other fairly well Bill and although I am now saying goodbye to this blog with my last comment here, we will continue to communicate through your new site.

Take care and good luck Bill, it’s been a blast mate :)

Thanks for those kind words Barry, you know they are appreciated. I felt I had to follow my passion, as marketing to other marketers didn’t hit the spot for me and to be honest I don’t have the aptitude or ability to master most of this modern technology. Old dogs new tricks etc. At least with my new project, I know the subject I am talking about and have my techie friend Adrian to pull me out of it when I hit a brick wall.

I must admit I have enjoyed having a rant or two and we do seem to have the same opinions on most things. As for your support Barry, I know thats always been there for everyone, that’s the reason you are going to make it in IM, others only make noises about over delivering, you are the real McCoy.

As you say Barry we will continue to communicate, I have probably learnt more about blogging from your site than all the rest put together. I may just have a surprise for you in a few weeks.

    Regards, as always
    Bill

  4. Very, very sorry to see you go Bill, your blog was/is my favourite. I shall probably cancel my own blog when I get around to it, I have left it to wither on the vine. Good luck with your walking ventures it sounds much more interesting than Internet Marketing. Best wishes, John.

Thanks John for your good wishes. Likewise, your blog was also my favourite to visit and it was sad to see it slowly wither on the vine, as you put it. It’s appropriate that you are the final commentator, as the one I have had the closest online relationship with.

It’s a pity we never had that jar or two together, I think we would have got on famously. I hope you are feeling much better after your prolonged problems. You have too much to offer not to be involved in some aspect of marketing, why don’t you make a real go of promote your passions, fitness and comics? I know you have the websites already for it – think about it! Although mine won’t be a real payer, it does give me a reason to get up in the morning.

All the very best whatever you decide to do. Bill
